This resort used to be the Gran Costa Real. It was bought by Barcelo Resorts in 2006. I have always liked this resort. It has a good location and gives its guests a great value. It is located on the north shore of the Hotel Zone so the water there is pretty calm and the beach is the same sand that was put there by nature (as opposed to the sand on the East side being but there by man). In order to get to shopping and night life you will have to take a bus which is only 70 cents per person each way.

The former owners of this resort and the current owners both are great management companies. They hold high standards to their resorts relative to what the resort is rated. This resort has a good number of bars and dining options in relation to the number of rooms they have. The quality of food and drinks they service is good as well.

The atmosphere of this resort is good for people an all types of vacations. It does not cater more to anyone more than another. So if you are going down with a group of friends this is a good option. If you are taking your family this is a good option. If you are on a budget and celebrating your honeymoon this is a good option.

The standard rooms are clean and well appointed. Upgrade to a junior suite is you want more space in the room and a bigger balcony. Usually a room upgrade is not going to cost you too much more. Be sure to ask me for a price on that.

Reasons to book this resort: You are looking for a fun resort in the hotel zone that is not going to break the bank but still show you a great value with good dining options, drinks and entertainments. You want the shopping and night life of Cancun accessible but you do not want to be right in the middle of it.

Reasons not to book this Resort: You are looking for an adults only resort. You would rather stay at one of their resorts in the Riviera Maya.
