The three resorts that Riu has available to the Puerto Vallarta Airport are located in an area called Flamingos which is minutes north of Nueva Vallarta. Since these resorts are so similar I am going to have the same write up for each of the resorts and I will simply explain the similarities and differences to you.

All three resorts are shaped like a horse shoe that is open to the beach. The horse shoe part has all the rooms and resort facilities other than one beach front restaurant. In the part that is open to the beach there is a courtyard with the main bar which is just outside of the theatre. Once you walk past the horse shoe you will find the pool(s), beachfront restaurant and the beach.

The Riu Jalisco is the first Riu Resort in Puerto Vallarta. Even though it has 700 rooms it does not feel or look like it does. This resort has the most traditional Mexican feel of all the Riu Resorts. It is demonstrated in the architecture in lobby and in the décor throughout the resort. My only complaint with the resort is their standard room has a curtain dividing the room and the bathroom. There is a separate room for the toilet but the whole curtain method seems a bit odd to me. If you were to upgrade to a junior suite you would get a room that is about twice the size and much nicer. I think it is well worth the money to upgrade if you have it to spend.

The next resort Riu opened in Puerto Vallarta was the Riu Vallarta. This resort has much more of a modern feel. You can see it in the colors used to paint the resort, the lobby and the lobby bar. One cool feature of this resort is a family pool and an adults only pool. The family pool has three water slides while the adults pool has a wrap around swim up bar. My only complaint about this resort is that the oriental restaurant requires a reservation while it is a buffet. I had never seen a buffet that required a reservation before.

The Riu Palace Pacifico is the newest of the Riu Resorts in Puerto Vallarta. It has all the traditional marks of a Riu Palace. All the rooms are junior suites and the highest room category is a Jacuzzi Suite. The difference is where most Riu Resorts only have a couple of Jacuzzi Suites this resort has a lot of them. All the restaurants are slightly better than those of a regular Riu Resort. There is a limited room service menu. Your room has an upgraded liquor dispenser. The resort has a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere in comparison to the other Riu Resorts. I couldnt find any complaints about this resort. One thing I did find that was pretty cool about it was on ever odd numbered floor there are two coffee machines that make all different types of cappuccinos, lattes, coffee, hot chocolate, and many other different things. Its like a vending machine that doesnt take money. You simply press what you want and a cup slides down and starts to get filled up with what you pressed.

Reasons to book this resort: You are looking for the best Riu has to offer. You are looking for a fun resort that has activites for the family.

Reasons not to book this resort: You are looking for an aduolts only resort. You are planing on booking on of the other Riu Resorts.
