Returning guests of this resort will remember this one as Couples Ocho Rios. The name was changed in the fall of 2008 after a 15 million dollar renovation. Pretty much the whole resort got a face lift. There is new furniture throughout the resort. The hallways are nicer. There is new spa that is said to be the best in the Caribbean but my personal opinion is that the jury is still out on that one. However I will say that they have a very nice spa. I am just not sure on it being the best. One much needed addition to the resort was a beautiful swim up bar. It was lacking that before but not anymore.

Upon entering the lobby of this resort you have a great ocean view and a view of their private island. Their private island is a au natural island. If you want to go you simply go over to the pier and a boat will pick you up. Once you get there it is cloths off. They do have a bar and a beach over there. If you are hungry while over there they can bring food to you from the main land. Don’t feel like asking for that service is something above and beyond. It is the norm.

Couples Resorts goes above and beyond in their inclusions. The all inclusive plan starts upon arrival in the airport. They have a lounge just past customs but before exiting the airport. Just look for the blue neon lights and there will be a Red Stripe (the national beer), water and soda waiting for you. The guys in this lounge do not work for Couples Resorts. They are contracted by Couples. So you do have to tip them and your driver as well. That is where the tipping stops. You are not allowed to tip any employee at the resort. If they are caught accepting a tip they are in danger of losing their job and believe me there is a long line behind every employee of people wanting that job. Aside from the normal inclusions of resorts (food, drink, and entertainment) Couples has shopping tours, glass bottom boat rides, golf transfers and green fees, transfers to Margaritaville and a local tour. The local tour for Tower Isle is Dunn’s River Falls which is a must do on a trip to Ocho Rios. Water sports at Couples Resorts goes above and beyond the average all inclusive vacationers expectations. They have kayaks, wind surfing, paddle boats, snorkeling trips, and water skiing all included at no extra cost. Their scuba program is second to none. If you are certified they will take you on a dive within the level of your certification. If you are Open Water then they will take you to 30 to 60 feet at 9 am and 1:30 weather and your flight schedule permitting. On Saturdays they do a two take dive at 9 am. If you are Advanced or beyond then they will take you with a separate instructor on the same boat and time to a deeper depth. They also offer night dives for $50 per person but they need 4 people to sign up before they will confirm the dive. Seeing how a dive will cost you about $50 anywhere else, if you and your partner are both certified and go on both dives each day that is a $200 inclusion which almost pays for the resort stay in itself. I met a Swedish couple that had been there for 2.5 weeks and had been on 23 dives each. At that rate they probably felt like they were robbing the resort. For those of you who are not certified you can get certified at the resort but that is going to cost you just like it will anywhere else. If you do not want to go that far and just want to try it out they will give you a pool demonstration and take you on a one tank dive at 11:30 am provided you and the instructor feel comfortable with the dive. I highly recommend it to those of you whom have never dove and are curious about whether or not you want to invest the time and money into certification. Guests of Tower Isle also have a horseback riding tour included as well.

The rooms at this resort are totally new. They have a modern Caribbean feel to them. The only down side is that if you want a mini bar you have to upgrade to junior suite. I highly recommend the ocean view junior suite if you have it within your budget because you will have a view of the ocean from your shower, from your bath tub and from your room. You will have two balconies; one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom; both of them with excellent views of the Caribbean and the private island.

Dining at this resort has quite a few options. They have everything from sit down gourmet, to a restaurant sitting over the Caribbean to the signature Couples Beach Grill. Bars range from a swim up bar, a nude bar (on the island), a beach bar, and a piano bar with the pics of the pop movie and music stars of the 50’s that visited their resort back when it first opened. This bar closes once the last guest leaves.

The atmosphere of this resort is relaxed with a good chance to be active. There are activities going on all day and night that you can take part in or do without. After all it is your vacation and you can do it all or do nothing at your own pace. Reasons why you would book this resort: You are looking for an adults only resort with a lot of inclusions. You are looking for a resort where you can have a relaxed day and not be bothered one day and then be active the next.

Reasons why you would not book this resort: You are looking to bring your kids on vacation. You are planning on visiting one of the other Couples Resorts. You are looking for a resort where you enter your room from the outside of the building and not through a hallway with elevators.
