When the brand new Moon Palace Punta Cana announced that they were converting to a Hard Rock I was like what are they thinking. People go to the Caribbean for a Caribbean feel to their vacation. Hard Rock is a south Florida or Las Vegas thing. Well I was wrong. This place is awesome. This place should be on your bucket list. From the moment you get off your transport and look at the front door you know you are somewhere special. Above the door is says “I’ve got two tickets to paradise. –Eddy Money”. At that point you are thinking damn right, and I have arrived!!! Then you walk in the lobby and are like wow, this place is over the top cool. There are four paintings in the lobby. They include John Lennon, Elvis, Mick Jagger and the last I don’t know. There is a Rock Shop in there and the check in area that has a huge guitar (50 foot woman huge) hanging on the wall. As you exit this area to the right is a 55 inch touch screen with resort info. Going down that way there are shops, restaurants, art all over the place and the casino and night club. The art you see on this way includes a limo that was used to take Madonna to an awards show. You have to see my pick of that. On the way to the casino you come across the gym and the theme of cool art work is continued. In the spa they have Madonna’s bathrobe from the like a virgin tour. They also have a bathrobe from a guitarist from Velvet Revolver. The spa here rivals that of their sister resort Le Blanc which is pretty much half spa. Then again for the size of the place the spa better be the biggest one you have ever seen.

The Casino has it all. It is Las Vegas but way better. In Vegas the walls are mirrors to make you feel like you are in a bigger area than you really are. The carpet is ugly to keep you looking up. The ceilings for the most part are designed to keep your eye level on the slots and games. Here it is cool to look at the walls, the carpet, the ceiling and everything in between. I tried to take a pic but I was told to erase it. They have a huge wall of TV’s in the Sports betting area. They have a restaurant that you have to pay at. The bars you have to pay at as well. In the casino is the entrance to the night club. I did not go in but I bet it is cool. You have to pay cash there as well. The casino, night club and restaurant all operate apart from the resort. That is why you have to pay in there unless you are betting and you get a comp. Think about it, if the food and drinks were free everyone would be in there, no one would be betting and those betting would have a harder time to do so.

From the lobby if you turn to the left there is another touch screen that has rock art moving all over the screen like a bunch of cards being mixed up for a game of go fish. You simply touch the piece you want info on and it blows it up and you can see what it is and which Hard Rock location it is at. This is pretty cool if you ask me. I could spend a half an hour just playing with that. As you continue down the walk way there are more restaurants, bars and shops. I had lunch at the Pizza restaurant that features a wood fire brick oven. Anyone who loves pizza knows there is no better way to have your pizza cooked than in this type of oven. I was told to have the calzone so that is what I had. I have to say it was the best thing I ate in my entire time in the Dominican Republic (9 nights). I could eat there every day of my vacation and just try something different every day. Personally I wouldn’t mind is all 13 restaurants were the same as this one. Since I didn’t design the resort they have a lot more to offer. One of their restaurants is an Asian restaurant that includes 20 tepanyaki tables. With 11 people eating at each table there can be 220 people eating tepanyaki for dinner at any given moment. That is crazy to think about. Not all of the restaurants are located on the Vegas style street. There are more up on the beach and pool areas.

So as you can imagine by the 1790 rooms, 11 pools and 13 restaurants this place is huge. There have their own golf course and their own horse stables. Outside of the Vegas style street the rest of the resort looks like a huge Caribbean resort. I am going to say there are four stages to the resort. The first stage is the Vegas style street which also hosts the metting rooms and group lobby. The second stage has rooms, pools, and mini golf. The third stage has pools and restaurants. The fourth is beautiful Bavaro Beach. In stage two you find pools that overlook a lagoon. One of these is an adult’s only pool. At night time they have romantic dinners set up there that can be partially paid for with your resort credit. I will get into resort credit later. Stage three has kids pools, some with slides, pools for everyone with swim bars and pools for just relaxing. There are also restaurants so that you do not have to go all the way back to the Vegas Street for food. On stage four they have the beach which is everything you should expect from one of the best beaches in the world. Here they have bars and endless chairs. There is also a special area for those that book concierge level rooms that have nicer chairs and drink service.

The only room I saw was the Hard Rock Caribbean Suite. I call it Caribbean suite in the pics but that is the full name of it. On the mirror above the bed it said “Sweet Dreams are made of this. Who am I to disagree? Travel the world and the seven seas... –Eurythmics”. Sing it and it makes since. The sales manager told me that every room has a different quote on the mirror. It is now your job to go there and come back and tell me if this is true. This room has great décor. It has the Jacuzzi in the middle of the room with decorative glass on both sides. They have a mini bar and a liquor dispenser. The bathroom is very spacious. The shower is huge and has his and hers shower heads. The patio is a bit larger than what you would find at most resorts. I did not see any other room types but they do have family suites that are two guaranteed connecting Caribbean suites for families. One room will have a king bed and the other will have two doubles. They also have a couple of 4 bedroom villas for those with a big family that want to stay together or a lottery winner with some friends ready to throw down.

Concierge level rooms come with upgraded mini bar, an IPod docking station, espresso/coffee maker, a pillow menu, aromatherapy, upgraded bath amenities, upgraded room service from select restaurants, nightly petit fours, a beach bag and two 25 minute messages on the beach or at the pool. You also get concierge by phone and access to the special beach area. If all of that is not enough and you want to add even more value to your stay you can get the golf/spa package. This includes one round of golf or spa treatment per adult per night. The list of spa treatments is as follows.

-Aroma Reflexology (50 min) -Sport massage (50 min)

-Zen Shitatsu (50 min)

-Invigorating leg and foot massage (25 min) plus refresher facial (25 min)

-Face, head and shoulder acupressure (25 min) plus refresher facial (25 min)

-Body scrub (25 min) plus manicure or pedicure (25 min)

This is a great package when traveling as a group of couples and the guys want to golf and the women want spa. Guys can golf every day if they want. Women not only get the messages on this list but also the two 25 minute messages from the concierge level room, on top of that you have your resort credit to play with. After all of that if you do not feel like a new person I don’t know what will do the trick for you. I can help you to reserve tee times and spa treatments 90 days prior to travel. All you have to do is ask.

I have been hinting at a resort credit. The way it works is everyone gets it. The amount you get is based on how long you stay. They give you $750 for staying 3 or 4 nights. If you stay 5-8 nights you get $1500. If you stay 9-11 nights you get $2000. If you really want to make my day, book 12 nights or more and get $2500 in resort credit. This credit is subject to taxes and rules. The rules are that you can use it on certain things. Some things you can use it on has limits. You can use it on room upgrades, spa, wine, tours, romantic dinners, gift shop, weddings and golf. You cannot use it all on spa or golf. I want to say on all of the categories are open season. You cannot use it in the Hello Kitty store or the Rock Shop or any of the other stores other than the resort credit shop. You cannot turn it into casino chips and gamble although that would make it a lot more fun.

So if you are still reading this you know this place is awesome. It does come with a bit of a hefty price tag. When you think of the quality that you are getting and the resort credit, is all worth it. This is a resort that should be on every person’s bucket list. Forget Heaven. When I die I want to go to the Hard Rock Punta Cana and I want all my loved ones to be there waiting for me. I am not asking for much, just Heaven on Earth. The cool thing about it is you do not have to wait till you die. You can go now, sooner better than later.

Reasons why you would book this resort: You have a pulse. You want a Vegas vacation and a Caribbean beach vacation and are going to kill two birds with one stone. You want a resort that has everything for the whole family and is maybe even more fun on an adults only vacation.

Reasons why you would not book this resort: You don’t have enough money. You are looking for a small boutique resort and are saving this one for a later date.
