As I have said before, not all the resorts on the island of St. Lucia are for everyone, this is another one. A stay at Ladera will be a vacation where you disconnect a bit more than what most people are comfortable with. Your room will not have an a/c or a t/v. Your room will not even have 4 walls. If they had the 4th wall they could put the resort anywhere and charge half the price. The 4th wall is missing to allow you to take in the view. From your bed you will wake up and look down at your toes and see one of the most wonderful views in the world putting this resort on just about every list out there as a place you have to stay at before you die.

So you have heard me talk about the Pitions on the St. Lucia destination page. This resort is located in between the two pitons about as high up on the mountain as they could. The sun sets right between the two pitons giving you an amazing view. So where do you watch it from? Good question. There are a couple of options but really only two in my mind. You can watch it from Dasheen or from your personal plunge pool. More on Dasheen later, lets talk about your personal plunge pool.

For all you people scared of being a room without a 4th wall and scared of sleep walking off a cliff, never fear you have a plunge pool to stop you and wake you up before you can fall to your death. These rooms are so sexy. It is like being in a log cabin or tree house. The walls, the floors, the ceiling … everything is hand made of hand carved wood except for the tiles in the shower. Even the do not disturb sign is a piece of hand carved art about 18 inches by 24. So at the edge of your log cabin room you have a plunge pool to waste away your day in and enjoy the sunset. You have a beautiful hand carved king bed with a mosquito net. This room as everything you need to make a vacation truly special without even leaving the room.

There are some common facilities to this resort. They have an amazing spa, a bar, an infinity pool and Dasheen. Dasheen is probably the coolest restaurant in the world. Like the rooms it has that log cabin/tree house feel to it. Like the rooms it has an amazing view right between the two pitons. Their menu changes nightly so you will not get bored. I have made reservations at this restaurant for guests staying at other resorts. It is worth it even if you have to come from across the island. Those are about all the words I can use. You will have to check out my pics.

None of this resort is beach front. All facilities and 32 rooms are up in the mountains. If you want to go to the beach, no problem. They have an agreement with Sugar Beach to take you down there and use their beach. You can see Sugar Beach from just about any part of Ladera. It is straight down. Sugar Beach has an excellent beach. Go check out my review of that resort and the pics to see the beach you get with a stay at Ladera. It is about a 15-minute drive.

There are a couple of different meal plans. There is the MAP (Modified American Plan) which is breakfast and dinner daily. The is the FAP (Full American Plan) which is breakfast, lunch and dinner. Then there is the All Inclusive plan which is breakfast, lunch, afternoon tapas, diner, drinks by the glass and house cocktails. Premium drinks, wines and champagne are additional. At the time of writing this review they are only available by booking the meal plan directly with the resort. My suggestion is to get the MAP as you might be out and about for lunch on many days whether it be at Sugar Beach or on a tour.

Reason why you book this resort: You are looking for an experience that is truly special where you can unplug and relax. You are looking for a resort with fine attention to detail and is so small you will probably know all the employees by the time you leave.

Reason why you to not book this resort: You need A/C. You need TV. You need beachfront. You want a bigger resort with more social opportunity.
